Jouni was born in Spain to a US naval officer and a German/Finnish mother, Ulla. Her parents met while her father was stationed at the Rota Naval Base and her mother was trying to distance herself from from her ties to the Movement 2 June.
The family moved to Alameda, California in the early 80s where Jouni was raised. She later attended Berkley University but dropped out and became a reservist at Nellis AFB.
