Sam is a second generation Cuban American. His father emigrated to the US in 1961 at age 6 as part of Operation Peter Pan. His mother was a ballet dancer from Russian Jewish heritage.
After being appointed to The House of Representatives as an independent in 2014, he lead the Committee that eventually lead to the abolishment the US embargo on Cuba and was elected 47th President of the United Sates in 2024, becoming the second President without party affiliation after Georges Washington.
