Liu was a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Guards_(China) Red Guard] during the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultural_Revolution Cultural Revolution]. In the late 60's, he rehabilitated himself and studied Telecom engineering in a Military institute. As the country's economy shifted towards a market economy, Liu along with several fellow students, formed one of China's first private company with the blessing of the Communist party. He has since become one of the country's leading Communist businessman.
