Yama Zrodlo grew up in a Bahai'i family in Quebec City. She studied comparative literature at Montreal's Concordia University before enrolling for a master's degree in comparative linguistics at McGill University. Her thesis, which focused on Turkic, Altaic and Uralic languages influences in Europe, lead her to join the Samosdelka excavation site to interpret possible scripts.
